CharaMaker — Story-Driven Protagonist Prompt Builder
A downloadable tool
Your protagonist is more than a list of traits.
You may already know your protagonist’s appearance, personality, abilities, and backstory.
But do those elements actually belong to the same person?
CharaMaker is a downloadable HTML prompt builder that helps you connect a protagonist’s appearance, past, ability, responsibility, desire, contradiction, and first scene into one coherent story design.
It does not simply add more details to a character profile.
It helps you explore why your protagonist became this person—and how that history shapes the choices they make when the story begins.
A second perspective for creators working alone.
What CharaMaker helps you design
CharaMaker guides you through the structural questions behind your protagonist:
- Why do they look this way?
- What past shaped their present behavior?
- What ability grew from that history?
- What responsibility can they not escape?
- What do they truly desire?
- What contradiction drives their choices?
- What should readers misunderstand when they first appear?
The result is not a random collection of traits.
It is a protagonist whose appearance, history, responsibility, desire, contradiction, and opening action all belong to the same story.
How it works
- Open the CharaMaker HTML file in your browser.
- Answer the guided questions.
- Generate the first prompt.
- Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or another language model.
- Follow the generated instructions to develop the character further.
- Receive a complete protagonist design and first-scene concept.
No installation is required.
CharaMaker runs locally in your browser. An internet connection is only required when using an external AI service.

What CharaMaker is
CharaMaker is a structured protagonist-design tool and prompt builder.
It helps you organize your ideas before asking AI to develop the final character design.
CharaMaker does not make creative decisions for you. It helps you ask better questions about the character you want to create.
What CharaMaker is not
CharaMaker is not:
- an AI chatbot
- a character image generator
- an automatic story generator
- a random character profile generator
- a replacement for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or another AI service
The tool creates prompts. You paste those prompts into the AI service of your choice.
